Hi my name is Riley. I have dyslexia and I used to have a lot of trouble with reading. The words would jump all over the place and I would miss lines. Because I grew up with it, not knowing about it, I thought that's how people read. My parents thought I was behind so I got checked out and I found out I was dyslexic. I now knew why I was struggling. Then I got my glasses and now I enjoy books.
I was happy to talk about this with my teacher and the teacher librarian Ms Gorton. Together we chose some books. Ms Gorton has been buying some fantastic books from a publisher who prints books for people with dyslexia. These books are great for all sorts of reluctant readers – not just those with dyslexia.
The latest book I have been reading is “2 die 4”. It is a good book if u enjoy thrills and horror. I have really been enjoying it. Another book I would recommend is “You killed me”.
This is how a dyslexic person handles reading. Thanks for reading.
There is a large number of readers at Wauchope High School - with interests and tastes wide and varied.
In order to give this diverse bunch a voice, this blog page - Yatters, aims to provide them with the opportunity to talk about their reading experiences, to recommend titles and series, and to engage with a real audience about one of the most important activities related to their learning - READING.
Our first guest blogger is Riley Keillor. Riley enjoyed reading but was getting very frustrated until he discovered he was dyslexic. With the right gear he is now a keen and not so frustrated reader who is really engaging more positively with learning these days.
Thanks Riley for sharing your thoughts, your story, and some good recommendations!
